Research Culture

Developing the Blue Print for Institutional Research Culture

Having established the organizational structure and functions of the Research Development Management Office, Dr. Reyes worked on 2 important paradigms:

a.Encouraging faculty to engage and publish researches;
b.Standardizing the students approach to undergraduate thesis to ensure professional standards

The implementation of the Faculty Research Program (FRP) was reinforced with the strategic move to establish the College Research Council (CRC) composed of representatives from the various academic departments.

Through the CRC, communication protocols was established making it easier for the RDMO to Coordinate and Manage research initiatives of the various departments.

The success of the FRP and the CRC eventually led the publication of the L-NU Research Journal. This journal is pivotal to the school as it establishes evidence of the growing maturity of the institution in the field of research. The Journal now add to the portfolio of the University whenever establishing proof of its activity and functionality. As proof of its credibility, the L-NU Research Journal has been granted ISSN and ISBN status. This means that copies of LNU’s concerned in-house literatures are archived in the National Library.

As evidenced by the successive publication of research journals and literatures, the various departments of the school has indeed become research conscious and research oriented.

As proof of this new found research culture the RDMO is host to nine (9) different in-house publications:

1. L-NU Graduate Research Journal
ISSN 1655-9118

2. ABSTRACTS (A compendium of undergraduate research abstracts)
ISSN 1656-734X

3. L-NU Research Journal
ISSN 1908-2363

4. Undergraduate Research Stylebook
ISBN 971-93263-0-1

5. Compendium of Graduate Research Abstracts

6. Technoguide – “In Vitro Propagation Techniques for White Potato”

7. Faculty Research Program Manual

8. Graduate School Faculty Research Journal

9. L-NU Research Notes (In the pipeline)

The pivotal management role now played by Dr. Reyes is sustaining the drive of the departments to keep on producing and contributing research literatures.

To this end he has designed the following research programs:

1. Faculty Research Development Program (FRDP)
2. Student Research Development Program (SRDP)
3. Community Research Development Program (CRDP)
4. Institutional Research Development Program (IRDP)
5. Research Facility Development Program (RFDP)

Dr. Reyes’ management keeps all these programs active and output oriented.

STUDENTS’ RESEARCH MANAGEMENT is another one of Dr. Reyes’ focus for the development of Research Culture.

The RDMO was granted authority to define the standard format of thesis writing in the institution. From this authority resulted the publication of the Student’s Research Handbook which is now used as the canon of undergraduate research in the institution.

Dr. Reyes arranged for the training of all thesis instructors in the use of the Research Handbook and for an interim period, volunteered the services of the RDMO to provide quality control of all undergraduate researches.

Eventually, it has now been established the L-NU students are now properly trained to implement proper form in the presentation of their undergraduate researches. In recognition of the best of the undergraduate researches, select faculty assisted researches are presented as article contributions or entries in interschool research forums and professional publications.
